Agenda for the 2nd quarter of Aveiro 2024 is now available
The theme ‘Culture and Democracy’ is the guiding thread of the events over the next three months of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture. The program features nationally and internationally renowned artists in various artistic areas.
The Aveiro City Council presented, this Thursday, February 29th, the program for the 2nd quarter of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture (Aveiro 2024). The presentation was given by the Mayor of Aveiro, José Ribau Esteves, and the coordinator of Aveiro 2024, José Pina.
Concerts, plays, dance shows and exhibitions are some of the proposals of the first Portuguese Capital of Culture for the months of April, May and June, which are developed around the theme 'Culture and Democracy'.
“The theme of the second quarter of Aveiro 2024, ‘Culture and Democracy”, is of fundamental importance today. The most recent events around the world demonstrate the need to make the interconnection between Culture and Democracy a renewed strength in our society. As Portugal celebrates 50 years since the 25th of April, we wanted to address this issue openly and highlight the relevance of freedom, equality, dialogue and civic participation in building a more just, supportive, prosperous and respectful society. of difference”, says the Mayor of Aveiro.
Among the highlights of the 2nd quarter of Aveiro 2024 are shows such as Idiota, by Marlene Monteiro Freitas; Mercado das Madrugadas (or instruction manuals for future revolutions), by Patrícia Portela; Muda, by Clara Andermatt; Fado Alexandrino, by Nuno Cardoso/Teatro Nacional São João; and Quis Saber Quem Sou, by Pedro Penim/Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. Also noteworthy are the concerts by Moonspell, Pedro Mafama and Lina.
Two exhibitions will also be opened in the next three months, in partnership with the Serralves Foundation and the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, with the Aveiro_Síntese biennial dedicated to electroacoustic music, and the premiere of the New Deal of Arts And Politics, a festival where art, politics and thought intersect.
The celebration of Navy Day, which will take place between the 4th and 19th of May, as well as the Day of Camões, Portugal and Communities, on the 10th of June, plays a very important role this quarter. On this date, which we will mark in an original way, a sculpture by Rui Chafes will also be inaugurated, which will be located in Praça General Humberto Delgado / “Pontes” and which is a tribute from the Chamber of Aveiro to Portuguese Culture and Portugal.
