The Thematic Cinema Cycle is made up of four short films: a commission from Aveiro 2024 is joined by three historical short films chosen according to the theme ‘Culture and Democracy’, in a partnership with the Cinemateca Portuguesa.

Year 1st - May 1st
A film about the day of May 1, 1975, in a new Portugal and a demonstration of the organization of popular strength and the MFA. The Film Production Unit Nº1 was created within the Portuguese Cinema Institute, after the 25th of April, with a view to political dynamism and was responsible for a set of short films of a documentary nature.

April carnations
A 1976 documentary that recounts its time, from the colonial wars, the Salazar dictatorship and, finally, the 25th of April 1974, with its popular support and consequent moments, such as the arrest of PIDE political police agents, the release of political prisoners from Forte de Caxias, the arrival of Mário Soares and Álvaro Cunhal from exile and the first May 1st in Lisbon. Painted Walls of the Portuguese Revolution
Following the Revolution of April 25, 1974, the walls and walls of the city of Lisbon became a means to celebrate and transmit revolutionary ideals and slogans. The text by painter António Domingues exalts this work initiated by the Cell of Plastic Artists of the Portuguese Communist Party.
